NOTICE: CMA Annual General Meeting May 10th
The 76th Annual General Meeting of the Canadian Museums Association will take place at the following date/time:
1 p.m. (ET)
Meeting sign-in begins at 12:45 (ET)
May 10th, 2023
Virtual Meeting
The CMA’s strategic initiatives must ensure the sustainability of the museum sector, looking beyond the institution walls to consider the sustainability of our workforce, our audiences, and our sites. Sustainability needs to be designed and reflected in our museum buildings and infrastructure as much as in how we deliver our programming and services, including linking global climate change and environmental issues back to the local community level.
The CMA must ensure its continued relevance, and that it continues to reflect the will and the aspirations of its members and its communities. Our ongoing relevance also requires that the organization periodically reflects on and revisits past initiatives, and modernizes and adopts its approach to address a changing sector.
The relationship between the CMA and its membership is vital to the success of our organization, and critical if we are to maintain existing partnerships or even, selectively prioritize the addition of new ones, including with the public (government, funding institutions, and other similar public organizations) and private (taxpayer, corporate, foundation) sectors.
Why your participation matters
The CMA is a non-profit member-driven organization, and its AGM is its townhall – an exercise in collective accountability and engagement.
As ever, the organization faces the same challenges and opportunities that confront and confound our sector, and as ever, those challenges require honesty, imagination, courage, and solidarity to overcome.
The 2023 AGM will provide a venue for members to take stock of CMA’s organizational well-being, to engage with staff and Board members and, most importantly, share perspectives that will inform our priorities and our action for the next 12 months.
The meeting will feature: the presentation of the audited financial statements, annual report, and reports from the nominations and governance committee, and membership sub-committee; proposed by-law changes to focus the organization; and, electing the members of the Board and board executive that will lead the CMA for the next year until the next meeting of the members.
Please make some time in your busy schedules to attend our AGM so that together we may benefit from your experience, your vision, your passion, and your support. My team and I are available to answer and triage any questions you may have in advance of the meeting; I would invite you to contact us directly at [email protected].
I look forward to seeing you at AGM 2023.
Sincerely,
Janis Monture
Executive Director and CEO
