On Truth and Reconciliation Day, Liberals should reflect on past mistakes, resist urge to defend themselves: Blackstock – The Hill Times

Crown-Indigenous Relations Minister Marc Miller says there’s been a ‘sea-change’ in addressing issues like long-term drinking water advisories, but that success required a culture of respect, patience, and trust.

Sept. 30 will mark Canada’s second National Truth and Reconciliation Day, but after taking heavy criticism last year from the public and the media after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau used the day to take a vacation in Tofino B.C., one advocate says she has high expectations for the government to show that truth and reconciliation are more than just public relations issues.

First Nations Child and Family Caring Society executive director Cindy Blackstock, who is a member of the Gitxsan First Nation, told The Hill Times that the most shocking part of Trudeau’s (Papineau, Que.) trip to the beach last year was his attire—or lack thereof.
