At a time when incumbent governments across the democratic world are being tossed out on their collective ears, Crombie’s Liberals have been unable to make a dent in Ontario Premier Doug Ford’s popular support.
Give Bonnie Crombie points for honesty.
In an interview with the Star’s Rob Ferguson to mark the one-year anniversary of her victory in the Ontario Liberal leadership race, the former Mississauga mayor said she thought the new job “would be easier.”
“It’s been tough,” she said.
To an outsider, confusingly so. At a time when incumbent governments across the democratic world are being tossed out on their collective ears, Crombie’s Liberals have been unable to make a dent in Ontario Premier Doug Ford’s popular support. The latest provincial poll gave the Progressive Conservatives a 16-point lead over the Liberals. Last December, it was a 13-point lead. This despite the fact that Ford himself has only a 34 per cent approval rating, lowest of any Canadian premier.
