Papal visit highway closure: QEII Highway

Press Release

Jul 26, 2022

Rolling closures along a section of the Queen Elizabeth II Highway will be in effect on the morning of July 27 to accommodate the papal motorcade.

Rolling closures mean that a highway closure will be in place before and after the Pope’s motorcade passes through.

The QEII Highway southbound between the City of Edmonton limits and the Edmonton International Airport will be closed to accommodate the departure of Pope Francis to Quebec City at 9 a.m.

Travellers can expect delays and should plan ahead and consider alternate routes if possible, especially if they are travelling to the Edmonton International Airport.

Up-to-date information on the papal travel schedule will be posted on 511.

Highway closure information will also be posted on electronic message boards along the QEII Highway and Highways 2A, 16, 43, 611 and 633.
