Potential great for Indigenous forest bioeconomy: advocate – Chronicle-Journal

The Anishnawbe Business Professional Association (ABPA) is calling on the federal and provincial governments to support the development of a sustainable and prosperous Indigenous forest bioeconomy.

The advocacy came last week as the National Summit on the Indigenous Forest Bioeconomy took place in Thunder Bay, providing an opportunity for the Anishnawbe Business Professional Association to address the need to ensure that the benefits of the forest sector are shared equitably among Ontarians.

Jason Rasevych, Anishnawbe Business Professional Association founder and director of Waawoono Consultancy, said Indigenous participation in the forestry sector is vital to co-management and decision-making, greater access to capital, training and education while recognizing and incorporating Indigenous knowledge and traditional ecological practices into forest management.
