Research Coordinator – Women’s Initiatives

The Women’s Initiatives sector within the Chiefs of Ontario secretariat is welcoming applications for the Research Coordinator contract position. The successful candidate will work with a team and will be responsible for planning and coordination of the Assessment Tool and Database project related to Victim Services, along with other related duties.

LOCATION: Toronto, Ontario (with the option to work in a hybrid capacity)


  • Acquire and maintain a detailed knowledge of the Chiefs of Ontario policies, principles, and strategies, and keep up-to-date with relevant developments.
  • Understands Ownership, Control, Access and Possession (OCAP) principles and will implement when gathering data.
  • Coordinates monthly meetings with First Nations Assessment Tool Advisory Committee.
  • Records meeting minutes and disseminates to advisory committee.
  • Plans and coordinates risk and danger assessment tools, and safety plan training for First Nations communities.
  • Assists in formulating feedback questionnaire on risk and danger assessment indicators.
  • Works with Women’s Initiatives team in identifying facilitators for training and data base design and development.
  • Will collaborate with Women’s Initiatives Program Lead on risk and danger assessment tools and database work plan.
  • Researches and writes literature reviews.
  • Assists the Women’s Initiatives team in formulating data gathering approaches in regards to on-line questionnaires and evaluations.
  • Ensures the smooth and efficient day-to-day operation of research and data collection activities.
  • Coordinates the day-to-day activities of any technical support staff specifically engaged in the carrying out of research as appropriate to the position.
  • Monitors the progress of research activities; develops and maintains records of research activities, and prepares monthly reports.
  • Works as a team member in completing tasks in other areas of Women’s Initiatives priorities and projects as assigned.


  • Post-secondary degree in a related field: Master’s degree preferred in Social Sciences or Bachelor’s level or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of First Nation traditions, governance structure, cultures, and values; understand the history and relationship between First Nations and the Crown within Ontario.
  • Preferred – 3 years’ experience working with First Nation community or organizations.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills to participate in engagement, draft meeting summaries, reports and briefing materials, and actively participate in task teams, and working groups
  • Proficiency in computer applications skills (word processing, spreadsheet, project scheduling, and internet)
  • A valid driver’s license is an asset.
  • Interpersonal skills and able to work within a team setting, within organization, and external agencies.

DURATION:  May 2022- March 31 2023 (with the potential for renewal based on funding)
