Rupertsland Institute Releases Study Linking Aboriginal Education Gap to Billions of Dollars Lost to the Provincial Economy

CALGARY, Feb. 25, 2014 – The Rupertsland Institute (RLI) is holding a press conference to announce the release of a study by the Rupertsland Centre for Métis Research (RCMR), and Dr. Eric Howe, on the economic impact of the aboriginal education gap in Alberta.

What: The Rupertsland Institute (RLI) is holding a press conference to announce the release of a study by the Rupertsland Centre for Métis Research (RCMR) and Dr. Eric Howe on the economic impart of the Aboriginal education gap in Alberta.

Who: The Rupertsland Institute is an affiliate of the Métis Nation of Alberta and has a mandate in education, training and research on behalf of the Métis people of Alberta. The Rupertsland Centre for Metis Research is an academic centre under the Faculty of Native Studies at the University of Alberta

Why: This report is the first of many studies that will be undertaken by the RCMR and RLI to explore the economic impact of Aboriginal education and training and the relevance to Alberta’s economy. The RCMR research presented will show a strong correlation between education and lifetime earnings among the Aboriginal community, and will be available to government, policy-makers, decision-makers, and Aboriginal planning entities to help create policy and education programming.
