It was a big week for Bird Construction Inc. The company announced it has been awarded a construction management contract to build the Seneca Polytechnic Health & Wellness Centre Project and a new multi-year task order from Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL). The combined value of the awards exceeds $130 million.
A dynamic multi-storey health and wellness complex, the Seneca Health & Wellness Centre is designed with the college’s commitment to sustainability, and various green practices will be incorporated, including mass timber, rainwater harvesting, solar energy, geothermal energy, renewable building materials, green roofing, and operational sustainability.
The complex will also serve as the new home for the Seneca Student Federation.
DIALOG and Two Row Architect designed the building to replace the aging sports center on the Newnham Campus, with an “architecture of healing” that focusses on environmental responsibility and celebrates Indigenous traditions.
The newly awarded task order by CNL expands Bird’s responsibilities on about 400 sites in the municipality of Port Hope. The company will be responsible for engineering, design, procurement, and remediation and restoration activities for the sites where Bird has been performing remediation activities since late last year.
