Six years later, the promises of the Daniels Decision remain unseen – Hill Times

Métis and Non-Status Indigenous people remain some of the most disenfranchised in Canada. The recently released federal budget offered little for off-reserve and Non-Status Indigenous people, making it clear we’re not a priority.

Six years ago, the Supreme Court of Canada gave its final ruling in Daniels v. Canada, declaring it the federal government’s legal responsibility to legislate on issues relating to Métis and Non-Status Indians. Six years ago, I was filled with relief and hope, as change seemed near on the horizon. Six years later, I’m left discouraged by the inaction of the federal government and lack of progress for our people.
