Social Services – Policy Analyst

The Chiefs of Ontario is inviting applications for the position of Policy Analyst: Social Services. The Analyst will be a key member of the Social Services Sector. Our ideal candidate will have strong research and writing skills, enjoy working as a team, and have the ability to lead complex projects.

LOCATION: Hybrid, Toronto, ON

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work as a key member of the Social Sector and Social Services Coordinating Unit.
  • Attend and actively participate in relevant government meetings and engagements, to advocate for First Nations rights, interests, and perspectives. Coordinate related First Nations feedback, strategy, and required meetings as needed. Provide verbal and written responses, and presentations for researched policy/program recommendations.
  • Enable strategic partnerships with government, First Nations, and organizations to ensure effective communication flow and dialogue between all partners.
  • Provide analysis regarding the efficacy of programs, strategies, initiatives, and inform ongoing improvements.
  • Execute work plans to address priority files associated with the social sector.
  • Attend and take notes at all relevant meetings and gatherings.
  • Assist in planning the successful execution of meetings and gatherings.
  • Consolidate information and develop appropriate written communications.
  • Writing drafts of briefing notes, annual reports, policy documents, summaries, government submissions, note taking, and record of decisions as directed. All drafts and briefings will be reviewed by the COO review team, the Social Director, and Chief Operating Officer.
  • Other duties as assigned by the COO Social Sector Director, including assisting in other project and policy areas.
  • Travel may be required.
  • Other duties as required.

RELEVANT SKILLS:

  • Post-Secondary Degree or Diploma in Social Work, Indigenous Studies, or a related field with similar experience.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working with First Nation organizations or communities.
  • Knowledge of First Nation traditions, cultures, values and rights – in particular, the nations that reside within the boundaries of the province of Ontario.
  • Working knowledge of First Nations governance structures and processes.
  • Experience and interest in working with Provincial and Federal First Nations child welfare programs, frameworks, regulations, etc. Understanding of other First Nations social programs at the provincial and federal levels may be considered.
  • Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines. High organizational skills and time-management skills. High functioning computer skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Good interpersonal and social skills. Exceptional team player with a strong ability to contribute positively to a team environment.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and variety of tasks.
  • Preferably fully vaccinated against COVID 19.
