Sr. Policy Advisor – Environment Sector

Description: The Assembly of First Nations is seeking an experienced and motivated individual to lead key conservation initiatives, conduct expert analysis, and provide recommendations for policy development, interpretation, and application for the inclusion of First Nations conservation leadership. The candidate should have a sound understanding of how First Nations currently participate in federal, provincial, and territorial conservation and stewardship legislation, the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, and growing efforts to recognize and support the creation of Indigenous Protected and Conserved Areas (IPCAs) and First Nations guardian networks. Experience working in international contexts, such as the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) or the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) would be a strong asset.
