Statement from Premier Heather Stefanson on Meeting of Canada’s Premiers in Winnipeg July 10 to 12

Press Release

July 10, 2023

I look forward to hosting my colleagues this week in Winnipeg for a meeting of Canada’s premiers to discuss the issues and priorities that matter most to Canadians.

We will cover a wide range of issues, from crime and safety to affordability, and health care, as we continue to build stronger communities and expand economic growth and opportunities.

Effective collaboration between provincial and territorial governments is essential to advancing improvements across the country from coast to coast to coast. Addressing common concerns around public safety, labour market shortages and expanding necessary strategic infrastructure to support trade corridors are just a few of the areas of shared priority focus.

Canada’s premiers will also meet with National Indigenous Leaders and local Indigenous leaders from Treaty 1 Nation and the Red River Métis, on whose territory and homeland our meeting occurs. We look forward to listening, learning and gaining further insights into our unique priorities and shared challenges, and how we can address them together in the spirit of ongoing reconciliation.
