A great opportunity for a qualified and motivated individual to join Chiefs of Ontario (COO) for the position of Surveys Lead. This is a challenging and rewarding opportunity to engage with and support First Nations community members in research, develop relationships with communities, and lead survey collection. You will work in close collaboration within the Research and Data Management sector at Chiefs of Ontario, participating First Nations leadership and communities, and First Nations Information Governance Centre (FNIGC) regarding the Regional Social Survey (RSS) and Regional Health Survey (RHS).This position reports to the Senior Lead.

LOCATION: Virtual office working from home. Travel within Ontario to the COO office in Toronto or communities may be required for meetings (pandemic restrictions permitting).

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create and present a variety of communications products which respectfully integrate First Nation ways of knowing on the RSS and RHS. These may include tools such as infographics, reports, briefing notes, slide decks, videos, social media posts, and other data visualization materials
  • Assist in the collection of BCRs, Letters of Agreements, and data verification for the surveys
  • Conduct and participate in meetings with relevant sectors in COO to put together a regional advisory committee for the RSS
  • Prepare materials such as Terms of Reference, questionnaire development feedback forms and activity forms regarding the regional advisory committee on RSS.
  • Work with and support Area Leads, Knowledge Gatherers of both RSS and RHS IV in the collection process
  • Attend FNIGC meetings relevant to RHS and RSS to keep abreast of timelines and changes to collection
  • Administrative duties such as coordinating meetings, preparing minutes, agendas, briefing materials, and other supporting materials as needed
  • Assist with presentations at First Nations events, such as the annual Chiefs of Ontario Health Forum, PTO/IFN meetings, or Leadership Assemblies

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND PROFESSIONAL KNOWLEDGE:

Education & Experience:

  • Minimum post-secondary degree in a related field (communications, public relations) or College Diploma in community development
  • Experience working with First Nation communities or organizations, demonstrable knowledge and awareness of First Nation ways of learning, traditions, cultures, values, health systems and intergenerational impacts of government policies
  • Experience in conducting surveys

Skills:

  • Relationship building and management skills, including excellent listening, verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proficiency developing communications materials in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint and graphic design software such as Adobe

Professional characteristics:

  • Organized, able to work independently AND as a member of a team
  • Trustworthy, reliable, and maintain confidentiality
  • Capacity to work from home in a virtual environment
  • First Nation ancestry/language use and understanding an asset
  • Knowledge of FNIGC and its past surveys an asset
  • Certified in The Fundamentals of OCAP® or willing to complete certification

Working conditions:

  • Office work and internet use from home
  • Extensive telephone and/or zoom communication with communities, community members, and team.
  • Calls, online meetings, and/or travel (pandemic restriction permitting) to team meetings or communities as required

Duration: Sept 2022 to March 31, 2024, on a full-time contract basis based on work performance and funding. COO offers an attractive benefit package and retirement savings plan, extended Christmas Holiday break, and competitive salaries.
