Canada’s balance of international payments, second quarter 2024
Canada’s current account balance (on a seasonal adjusted basis) posted an $8.5 billion deficit in the second quarter, widening $3.1 billion from the previous quarter.
Payroll employment, earnings and hours, and job vacancies, June 2024
The number of employees receiving pay and benefits from their employer—measured as “payroll employment” in the Survey of Employment, Payrolls and Hours—decreased by 47,300 (-0.3%) in June.
Aircraft movement and civil aviation statistics, June 2024
In June, aircraft movements at Canada’s major and select small airports totalled 520,024, up 2.6% from June 2023. Itinerant movements increased 2.5% year over year to 367,247 in June 2024, while local movements rose 3.1% to 152,777.
Screened passenger traffic at Canadian airports, July 2024
In July, 5.6 million passengers passed through pre-board security screening at checkpoints operated at Canada’s eight largest airports, an increase of 3.3% from July 2023.
Pension plans in Canada, as of January 1, 2023
The number of Canadians who were active members of a registered pension plan (RPP) grew by 215,800 (+3.2%) from 2021 to over 6.9 million in 2022. This compared to a growth of 772,016 (+4.4%) in employment over this period, according to the Labour Force Survey (LFS). RPPs are established by employers or unions for employees. Participating in one is an important employee benefit that provides a measure of security in retirement.
Deliveries of major grains, July 2024
Data on major grain deliveries are now available for July.
Milled wheat and wheat flour produced, July 2024
Millers milled 274 210 tonnes of wheat in July, while wheat flour production totalled 203 337 tonnes.
Oilseed crushing statistics, July 2024
Oilseed processors crushed 1 005 160 tonnes of canola in July. Oil production totalled 434 490 tonnes, while meal production totalled 579 209 tonnes.
