Payroll employment, earnings and hours, and job vacancies, November 2023
The number of employees receiving pay and benefits from their employer—measured as “payroll employment” in the Survey of Employment, Payrolls and Hours—decreased by 88,300 (-0.5%) in November, following a decline of 24,000 (-0.1%) in October.
Socioeconomic profile of the 2SLGBTQ+ population aged 15 years and older, 2019 to 2021
Statistics Canada released three data tables on the population who is Two-Spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer, or who uses other terms related to gender and sexual diversity (2SLGBTQ+). Using combined cycles of the Canadian Community Health Survey (CCHS) (2019 to 2021), these tables help fill a data gap on the 2SLGBTQ+ population in Canada.
Railway carloadings, November 2023
Canadian railways transported 32.4 million tonnes of freight in November, slightly above (+0.8%) November 2022 levels. Albeit small, this marked the first year-over-year increase in rail volumes in seven months as higher carloadings of potash, coal and wheat more than offset declines in canola and other grains.
Tourism Investment Module, 2022
In 2022, tourism industries invested $25.4 billion in non-residential capital assets, which accounted for 6.2% of all non-residential capital investment in Canada.
Monthly Survey of Manufacturing: Flash estimate, December 2023
Statistics Canada is providing an advance estimate of sales in the manufacturing sector for December. Advance results indicate that total manufacturing sales decreased 0.6% in December. The largest decreases were in the transportation equipment and chemical product subsectors.
