Payroll employment, earnings and hours, and job vacancies, August 2023
The number of employees receiving pay and benefits from their employer—measured as “payroll employment” in the Survey of Employment, Payrolls and Hours—declined by 46,800 (-0.3%) in August, following little change in July.
Aircraft movement statistics: Major and select small airports, August 2023
In August, Canada’s major and select small airports recorded a total of 530,737 aircraft movements. This was a decrease of 1.2% from August 2022 and was 10.8% below the same month in 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic.
Monthly civil aviation statistics, August 2023
Major Canadian airlines carried 7.7 million passengers on scheduled and charter services in August, up 12.7% from the same month in 2022.
Canadian new entrants to postsecondary education, by racialized group
Today, Statistics Canada is releasing data related to the new entrants to college and university (entry cohorts of 2015 to 2020) by racialized group. This release includes information on the number of new students by racialized group, examining their educational qualification, field of study, gender, and region of study.

Monthly Survey of Manufacturing: Flash estimate, September 2023
Given the rapidly evolving economic situation, Statistics Canada is providing an advance estimate of sales in the manufacturing sector for September. Advance results indicate that total manufacturing sales declined 0.1% in September. The largest decreases were in the primary metal, chemical and transportation equipment subsectors.
