Industrial research and development, 2022 (actual), 2023 (preliminary) and 2024 (intentions)
Businesses in Canada continued their upward trend in research and development (R&D) spending in 2022, reaching new heights and building on the steady increase that began in 2016. All told, Canadian businesses spent a record $30.4 billion on in-house R&D in 2022, an increase of 9.4% from 2021.
Labour productivity, hourly compensation and unit labour cost, second quarter 2024
Labour productivity of Canadian businesses edged down 0.2% in the second quarter, after posting a similar decline in the previous quarter (-0.3%) and a 0.3% increase in the fourth quarter of 2023.

Lumber production decreased 10.9% from May to 3 988.5 thousand cubic metres in June. Production was up 3.3% from June 2023.
