Monthly Survey of Manufacturing, December 2016
Manufacturing sales increased for the second consecutive month, up 2.3% to $53.5 billion in December, following a revised increase of 2.3% in November. The growth was mainly the result of higher sales of transportation equipment, as well as petroleum and coal products.
Trade by Exporter Characteristics: Goods, 2015
In 2015, 43,922 Canadian enterprises exported $456.9 billion of goods. The number of exporting enterprises edged up by 0.9% in 2015, while export sales were down by 2.6%.

The percentage of Inuit aged 15 or older who were daily smokers declined significantly from 64% in 1991 to 52% in 2012, but remained well above the rate for the total population. The percentage of all Canadians aged 15 or older who were daily smokers decreased from 22% in 2001 to 16% in 2012.

Monthly data from the Large Retailers program are now available for December.
Canadian business counts, December 2016
Nationally, there were 1,265,751 active businesses with employees in December. Provincially, Ontario reported the highest number of active businesses with employees, at 459,107, followed by Quebec (257,179), British Columbia (195,860) and Alberta (179,341).
Study: Industrial contributions to research and development spending in Canada
Businesses in Canada spent $16.0 billion on in-house research and development (R&D) in 2013, compared with $14.1 billion a decade earlier. However, business sector R&D in 2013 was below pre-recession levels, as the pace of spending in different R&D-performing industries changed significantly after the 2008–2009 recession.
