Democrat Sen. Joe Manchin, the new head of the U.S. Senate energy committee, has urged President Joe Biden to rescind his decision to cancel the Keystone XL pipeline.
“Pipelines continue to be the safest mode to transport our oil and natural gas resources and they support thousands of high-paying, American union jobs,” Manchin said.
Moreover, Manchin said revoking the permit for the pipeline could have a negative impact on “jobs and energy security,” while highlighting the U.S. and Canada’s “reliable” trading partnership, according to the Associated Press.
Biden has also received letters from a number of politicians who share Manchin’s sentiments. Fourteen attorneys general from Republican-led states said they are in the process of reviewing legal options.
