The North West Company to Operate Owens Cash & Carry

Winnipeg, MB, September 2, 2022 – The North West Company is looking forward to serving customers in-community with the acquisition of Owens Cash & Carry in Little Grand Rapids, MB.
“We are delighted to have the opportunity to take on stewardship of Owens Cash & Carry. This business has been a staple of the community for a very long time and provides an essential service to community members twelve months a year,” says North West’s Director of Sales and Operations, Steve Small.
North West will operate Owens Cash & Carry as is while they solicit advice from community members and local stakeholders on how best to meet the needs of the community in the future. Currently, the store is 2,770 sq. ft. with a convenience store-style offering of bread, milk, select groceries, chips and pop, limited general merchandise and fuel pumps.
“While our larger Northern store will continue to operate across the lake, the acquisition of Owens Cash & Carry, which is located on the Little Grand Rapids reserve, is a welcome addition to the service we provide the community,” says Mike Beaulieu, Vice-president, Canadian Retail Operations. “We look forward to the opportunity and wish to acknowledge and thank the Little Grand Rapids First Nation for welcoming Northern into the community.”
The opening event, with ribbon cutting and a blessing by Jennifer Owens, is planned for Thursday, September 8th. Customers can enter to win one of six great prizes, including a HiSense 65” TV. “We are really excited about operating Owens Cash & Carry,” says Store Manager, Harneet Singh. “It’ll be Little Grand Rapids’ own store bringing ease into the lives of people. We invite all of Little Grand Rapids to join us in celebration on September 8th.”
