What’s happening on and off the Hill today, plus the news you need to start your day.
Less than a week after agreeing to a 30-day hold in imposing sweeping new tariffs on Canadian and Mexican imports, U.S. President Donald Trump is once again threatening to trigger a global trade war with a 25 per cent levy “on all steel and aluminum imports,” including — but not limited to — Canada and Mexico, which will be “formally” announced later today, Canadian Press reports.
“In reaction to Trump’s announcement Sunday, Industry Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne posted on social media platform X, saying Canadian steel and aluminum support critical industries in the U.S. including defence, shipbuilding and auto manufacturing,” the wire service reports.
