Trudeau marks landmark decision on Indigenous land rights in B.C. – iPolitics

Amid the ongoing aftershocks from his party’s unexpected loss of a previously rock-sold Liberal seat in the heart of Toronto earlier this week, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is set to spend a second day on the West Coast, although as of press time, he’s not expected to make himself available to reporters.

According to his official itinerary, he’ll head to the Nemaiah Valley to attend “community celebrations to mark the 10th anniversary of the Tŝilhqot’in Decision,” a landmark ruling by the Supreme Court of Canada that “granted declaration of aboriginal title to more than 1,700 square kilometres of land in British Columbia to the Tsilhqot’in First Nation,” which, as CBC News reported at the time, was “the first time the court has made such a ruling regarding aboriginal land.” (12 p.m. PDT)
