Tsilhqot’in First Nation fights water discharge permit for Gibraltar mine – Vancouver Sun

The Tsilhqot’in Nation will argue at the Environmental Appeal Board that government failed to adequately protect the environment in issuing a permit amendment allowing for an increase in discharge from the mine.

B.C.’s Environmental Appeal Board will consider a Tsilhqot’in National Government’s appeal of a waste-water discharge permit for a major mine north of Williams Lake.

Taseko Mines’ Gibraltar mine discharges tailings effluent, under provincial permit, directly into the Fraser River four kilometres downstream of the Tsilhqot’in-member ?Esdilagh First Nation’s community, and in 2019, received permission to increase the amount discharged.
