Two ways the federal government can save money – Hill Times

Stop the ever-expanding shadow civil service called the minister’s office staff, and please stop fighting in court against the rights of Indigenous Peoples.

OTTAWA—There may be a bit of an issue of ever-expanding budgets in federal departments.

If we ever needed a federal government adapt to responding to multiple crises, it is now. Instead, the civil service is getting bent all out of shape trying to find savings, and too bad, but we’ll have to put a hold on things like cohesive policy responses to the lagging economy and reconciliation and the like.

I sure hope we don’t end up with some off-the-cuff move like trying to bribe us with our own taxpayer money in $250 cheques or something, in the name of an economic incentive. But moving on—as an external op-ed writer who hasn’t set foot in a government office in years, I do have solutions for the ballooning federal budget.
