Volunteer Groups And Organizations Benefit From Latest Charitable Gaming Grants

The provincial government is providing approximately $1.5 million to groups and organizations that raise money through charitable gaming activities.

“The work of our friends and neighbors displays that the spirit of volunteerism is strong in Saskatchewan,” Minister Responsible for the Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority Lori Carr said. “Our government is pleased to continue to support the volunteers and charities that make a difference in the communities we love.”

Among the grants provided during the most recent quarter: Lloydminster and surrounding area received: $126,265; North Battleford and surrounding area received: $114,172; Humboldt and surrounding area received: $64,527; Moose Jaw and surrounding area received: $50,391; and Estevan and surrounding area received: $38,338.

The charitable gaming grant program provides a grant equal to 25 per cent of the net revenues raised through charitable gaming activities including; licensed bingos, raffles, breakopen tickets, Texas Hold’em poker and Monte Carlo events. Groups that conduct licensed charitable gaming activities and events do not have to apply for the charitable gaming grant. Charitable gaming reports submitted by the groups are used by SLGA to calculate grants and paid out each quarter.
