In an open letter, Chief Larry Roque joins First Nations across Ontario stating opposition to the bill, saying it will poisoning treaty relationships and leave projects ‘open to endless lawsuits by First Nations with few other options under the law’
Wahnapitae First Nation Chief Larry Roque, on behalf of Wahnapitae First Nation, is calling on the province to halt the passing of the proposed Bill 5, what he states could be seen as an attempt to “override First Nations consultation and the need for free, prior and informed consent.”
In an open letter issued June 3, Roque states that Wahnapitae First Nation “opposes any measure that threatens our inherent and Treaty rights, and for that reason, will oppose Bill 5.”
