YT Government: Public Airports Act Regulation set to come into force April 1, 2021

Press Release

Today, the Government of Yukon signed the Public Airports Act Regulation. The regulation outlines how public airports throughout the territory are managed. It also includes details about land management and use, future development, land leases, licences and permits, and fees.

The new regulation was reviewed by the Yukon Aviation Advisory Committee, who provided valuable feedback along with First Nations governments and municipalities. Their input helped create a regulation that is effective, meaningful and consistent in its application.

With the Public Airports Act Regulation coming into force, the Public Airports Act, which was proclaimed in 2018, can now be fully implemented. The Public Airports Act establishes the government’s legal authority to manage airport lands and complements federal legislation.

We are glad to bring into force the Public Airports Acts Regulation. This is another milestone and builds on the extensive work we have done to improve Yukon’s aviation sector.  This, along with Flight Path, the land lease lottery and the ongoing funding supports in the face of COVID-19, provide certainty and consistency for the aviation sector.
