With the help of a nearly $49 million investment from the provincial and federal governments, remote First Nations communities throughout mid-Vancouver Island can expect high-speed Internet in the next few years.
The Pathways to Technology project was announced this week, an ambitious government-sponsored initiative set to upgrade connections for nine First Nations communities with fibre optic cable to be laid from Great Central Lake to Tofino.
The province has pledged $40.8 million for the upgrades to the Internet lines, while the federal government is investing another $8 million. The project is overseen by the aboriginal-owned All Nations Trust Company.
