Aboriginal leaders flock to governance training – StarPhoenix

After six months of training, 53 community leaders from the File Hills Qu’Appelle Tribal Council have learned to become better decision-makers thanks to a new governance education program.

Alvin Francis, a Nekaneet First Nation band councillor, said he’s glad to be part of the first graduating class of the FHQTC Director Education and Certification program because it has helped him become a better communicator and role model. “I think governance training is just part of being a good community leader,” he said after Tuesday’s graduation ceremony in Fort Qu’Appelle.

Graduates of the program included chiefs, council members and senior administrators from the 11 member communities of FHQTC.
