Agreement between Bruce Power and B&W Canada to benefit Ontario with more jobs and economic activity

Press Release

TIVERTON, ON – November 27, 2014 – Bruce Power has forged a $300 million agreement with B&W Canada, which will see the Cambridge company supply important services for all Bruce Power units, to meet the company’s ongoing operational needs.

The agreement will allow B&W Canada to continue to be a major employer, providing highly skilled jobs within the Kitchener-Waterloo-Cambridge Region, while also supporting the affordable production of electricity from Bruce Power.

“This agreement is a win-win for all involved, securing jobs and injecting millions into Ontario’s economy,” said Duncan Hawthorne, Bruce Power’s President and Chief Executive Officer. “Our relationship with B&W is strong and they are a key player in helping Bruce Power to provide safe, low-cost, reliable power to every third home, school and business in the province.”

The contract includes engineering, tooling development, skilled trades training and site work execution.

“We’re a proud, long-term supplier to Bruce Power, dating back to 1977 when we supplied the site’s first steam generators,” said John MacQuarrie, President, B&W Canada. “This award represents our continued commitment to supplying Bruce Power with trusted solutions that support the production of safe, clean, affordable power for Ontario.”

B&W Canada and Bruce Power participated in an official signing ceremony on Nov. 27, which was attended by Ontario’s Minister of Energy The Honorable Bob Chiarelli, Cambridge MPP Kathryn McGarry, community leaders and staff.

“This announcement is a demonstration of the positive economic impact the Bruce Power site has on the Cambridge community, by creating jobs and investment in the area. Output from Bruce Power is an affordable source of electricity and important to the economy in southwestern Ontario,” McGarry said.

Work associated with the award of this contract will commence in January 2015 and is expected to carry out into 2020. It also provides a foundation to be expanded as Bruce Power proceeds with extending the lives of its units as outlined in Ontario’s Long-Term Energy Plan.
