The aging single-phase cable currently supplying power to the island will be replaced
The aging single-phase submarine cable currently supplying power to Beausoleil First Nation is set to be replaced, thanks to funding from the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO).
In mid-July, the IESO announced that 47 communities would be receiving a combined $4.8 million through its Indigenous energy supports program.
“This funding supports the development of renewal energy generation, training and skills development and energy efficiency opportunities,” said Andrew Dow, a spokesperson for the IESO.
“Really what it’s ultimately about is helping Indigenous communities achieve their economic, environmental and sustainability objectives, whatever they may be.”
