Call for Nominations: Nominating and Governance Committee

Press Release

June 24, 2025

The CMA is seeking up to four (4) members to serve on its Nominating and Governance Committee for a one-year term. These volunteers will play a vital role in reviewing and enhancing the CMA’s governance processes, recommending a slate of Directors and Officers for election and potentially, finalizing by-law changes in time for the 2026 Annual General Meeting. For full details, please consult the Committee Terms of Reference.

According to the CMA’s By-laws, the Nominating and Governance Committee is appointed annually, with members serving a one-year term ending at the AGM. On June 11th, the CMA Board appointed Madeline Smolarz, Past President, as Committee Chair.

To apply, members:

  • Must be in good standing;
  • Have demonstrated experience or expertise in governance, and knowledge of the Canadian museum and broader heritage sectors;
  • Are NOT intending to run for election to the CMA Board at the 2026 Annual General Meeting.

NOTE: While Individual Members may apply directly, those representing Institutional Members must provide a letter of support from their organization’s executive leadership.

Interested individuals are asked to submit the following to executivedirector@museums.ca by July 31, 2025:

  • A brief statement outlining your interest and qualifications;
  • Your resume or a link to your LinkedIn profile;
  • Letter of support from your organization’s executive – if applicable, see note above.

The CMA Board of Directors will review applications and formally appoint the committee following its quarterly meeting this August. We thank all applicants in advance for their interest in strengthening the governance and future leadership of the CMA.
