When Winterlude kicks off next weekend, 30 ambassadors for Nordstrom, the Rideau Centre‘s incoming American retail giant, will be handing out free hot chocolate to those braving the cold. But it’s what will be on the servers feet that has Tara Barnes beaming with pride.
“It’s exciting that all the ambassadors will be wearing our mukluks,” says Barnes, spokesperson for Manitobah Mukluks, a burgeoning Canadian business that makes authentic Aboriginal mukluks and moccasins.
Based in Winnipeg, but with a sales office in Aylmer, the footwear company has grown exponentially since Sean McCormick, a Métis entrepreneur, started the business in 1990 as a trading post, swapping traditional mukluks and moccasins for tanned leather.
