Carney’s Muskoka meet-up with premiers expected to focus on latest developments in Canada – U.S. trade war – iPolitics

A little less than two months after convening a roundtable session with provincial and territorial premiers in Saskatoon, S.K., Prime Minister Mark Carney is once again set to host a closed-door huddle with his fellow first ministers — this time, in Huntsville, Ont., where he’s expected to provide a high-level update on the latest developments in the ongoing cross-border trade war this morning. Slated to take place ahead of the premiers’ annual summer summit, the meeting — which was convened at the request of Ontario Premier Doug Ford in the wake of U.S. President Donald Trump’s threat to impose a 35 per cent tariff on Canadian exports on Aug. 1 — will be “the third time in four months that he and the premiers have met face-to-face” since Carney was sworn in as prime minister, and an “unusual amount of time for the prime minister and the premiers to spend in each other’s midst,” at least by “recent standards,” CBC News writer Aaron Wherry notes.
