Aboriginals make up six per cent of greater Kelowna’s population, a rise from 4.7 per cent five years ago, newly released census data shows.
Within the Central Okanagan’s population of 190,565, a total of 11,370 have an Aboriginal identity, the information from the 2016 census shows.
Another 5,654 people, representing three per cent of the population, are Metis.
Among First Nations people, 3.5 per cent say they can conduct a conversation in an Aboriginal language, according to the 2016 census. That was up slightly from 2011.
