Queen’s Park pledges $70,000 to Teach for Canada, which will recruit, train and dispatch teachers to remote northern communities.
Ontario is offering support for a project that will recruit and select teachers who will work in northern Ontario schools — including remote First Nations reserves.
Teach for Canada, a non-profit organization that works with schools in remote communities, is operating the $600,000 project, which covers teacher recruitment, preparation and support.
The goal of the project, in which the province is providing $70,000, is to improve the standards of education in the north, and try to address the high turnover of teachers who work in the region, organizers say.
