The city says it can no longer meet an end-of-year deadline to clean up the sewage-ravaged creek
Hamilton is asking Ontario to use the law to prevent repeated “interruptions” of a government-ordered sewage cleanup in Chedoke Creek by an Indigenous group demanding a say in the project.
But even if that happens, the city can no longer meet the cleanup deadline of Dec. 31 — so it is asking for an extra year.
The Haudenosaunee Development Institute (HDI), meanwhile, has urged city officials to seek “consent” for the dredging project and abandon efforts to “criminalize lawful treaty activity” at the creek.
