Crisis of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls needs action, now – The Hill Times

What would we demand of municipal, provincial, and federal governments if 2,000 white women were killed? How about we do nothing, like we are doing about the crisis of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls? The levels of racism underpinning this Canadian collective refusal to act is breathtaking.

OTTAWA—Why do we continue to lose Indigenous women and girls? Somewhere between 1,600 and 4,000 Indigenous women and girls have been lost in this country in the last 20 years; some missing, some lost to crime. There is no agreement on the number lost and that in itself should be alarming. Why are institutions in this country so resistant to the stories and numbers of lost sisters as told by their families?
