Daphne Bramham: Indigenous leaders playing the long-game with Olympic bid – Vancouver Sun

Among the crucial learnings from the 2010 Olympics for the four host First Nations’ leaders was that by working together, they were stronger.

Eighteen years ago, leaders from the Squamish, Musqueam, Tsleil-Waututh and Lil’wat First Nations signed onto an agreement that promised to acknowledge and respect their traditions and protocols during the 2010 Winter Olympics.

The Four Host First Nations Secretariat was formed and Squamish Chief Gibby Jacobs became the first Indigenous leader to ever be a director of a host city’s organizing committee.
