The Dehcho First Nations (DFN) are seeking mediation after being left alone at the negotiating table by the territorial government over an impasse on land quantum.
DFN Chief Herb Norwegian said the Aboriginal government wants to negotiate with the territory over the amount of land to be included in its comprehensive claim, but said the GNWT gave one offer then refused to budge.
“We will do everything that we can to get the territorial government back to the table,” Norwegian told The Journal last week, a day after negotiators were instructed to contact Canada and the GNWT over the possibility of mediation. “The Dehcho Process is on hold until the territorial government returns.”
