Under the direction of the Chief Operating Officer, the Director of Wildlife and Environment will coordinate the implementation of the Inuit responsibilities related to the management of wildlife and environment in Nunavut under the Nunavut Agreement, and will develop plans, policies and procedures to ensure that resources are managed in such a way as to maximize their benefit to Inuit in Nunavut. The successful candidate; will be responsible to develop long term objectives and policies for harvesting and protection of wildlife resources in Nunavut, in consulting with Wildlife and Environment department managers and appropriate executive members, also to develop and implement Environment Policy for NTI and the RIA’s including input from the HTO’s and RWO’s. You will establish and maintain close communication and working relationship with RWO’s, HTO’s, RIA’s, IPG’s, DIO’s and other implementation and wildlife management organizations in Nunavut. You will participate in recruitment, interviews and selection of all departmental staff and approve hire, also, administer a budget in excess of $2.1 million to accomplish Departmental objectives and obligations. Represent NTI in meetings and conferences or on committees and working groups relating to Wildlife Management.

To be invited to an interview you must have a University Degree or competition of an Environmental Technology or Wildlife Management Program; a minimum of 3 years of working at senior management level. Good knowledge of the Nunavut Agreement, NTI’s Mission, and its Corporate Governance policies. The ability to work under high levels of stress/pressure and ability to work in a politically sensitive environment. You should have extensive experience in dealing with Wildlife Management issues, and effective presentations with variety of means and audiences. A good knowledge of financial management processes to carry out responsibilities of administering a department and the ability to analyze and interpret policy, legislation and regulation. The ability to work cooperatively with a variety of individuals and groups, both government and claimant also strong problem-solving abilities.

Preference will be given to Inuit enrolled under the Nunavut Agreement.

Starting salary will commensurate with experience and a comprehensive benefit package including an employee pension plan, group insurance and vacation travel assistance.

Employee Housing may be available for this position.

Housing allowance of $27,600.
