ECONOMIC POLICY ANALYST

LOCATION: Union of Ontario Indians Head Office
Nipissing First Nation, North Bay, ON

ACCOUNTABILITY:

Reports to and works under the direction of the Lands and Resources Director.

SUMMARY OF FUNCTION:

The Economic Policy Analyst is responsible for conducting research, preparing reports, and/or formulates plans to address economic matters related to the promotion of Anishinabek Nation First Nation economic aspirations. May collect and process economic and statistical data using sampling techniques and econometric methods. The Economic Policy Analyst will also be responsible for liaising with Anishinabek First Nations and other stakeholders.

RESPONSIBILITIES (include, but are not limited to):

  • Support the Implementation of the Anishinabek Nation’s Economic Blueprint;
  • Conduct research, prepare background reports, technical summaries, briefing notes, and other related documents as required;
  • Liaising with Anishinabek First Nations, government agencies, and business and industry Leads;
  • Providing sound policy analysis and advice on matters pertaining provincial and federal legislation, regulations and by-laws;Communicating with Anishinabek First Nations, Chief and Councils, or public in a one-to-one setting;
  • Participate in activities aimed at promoting First Nations economic development by partner organizations such as Tribal Councils, Chiefs of Ontario, the Assembly of First Nations, and relevant government agencies;
  • Research and explore opportunities that will facilitate revenue generation for the Anishinabek Nation by following a strict due diligence and risk management framework;
  • Play a supportive role and participate with the Chiefs Council on the Economy meetings;
  • Providing the Executive with policy support for internal and external communications and presentations
  • Performing all other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have a University Degree or College Diploma related to one of the following: Business Administration, Economics, Economic Development or any other concentration related to Business Administration
  • Knowledge and experience in the areas of: Economic Development, Business Administration, Website Development, Statistics, Project Management
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft computer software programs and Internet capability
  • Demonstrated verbal, written communications, liaison and facilitation skills
  • Demonstrated and working knowledge of Union of Ontario Indians First Nations
  • Must be able to travel
  • Ability to work independently, handle peak workloads and meet deadlines
  • Good planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to speak a First Nation language is an asset
  • Must possess valid Ontario Drivers license and be insurable

SALARYCommensurate with experience and education
