Editorial: Sûreté du Québec falls short on diversity – Montreal Gazette

The section of the Sûreté du Québec’s website that is devoted to recruitment offers plenty of useful information for anyone hoping to join the provincial police force.

In addition to listing conditions for admissibility, average salaries and contact information, there are several prominent pictures of officers and cadets, some smiling at the camera and others interacting casually with the public. While a number of the subjects in these photos are women, almost none are visible minorities.

Once you notice it, the lack of diversity is striking, but it is certainly not limited to a single web page. The SQ is still an overwhelmingly white police force that struggles to attract a diverse cross-section of Quebecers into its ranks.
