Committed to supporting Aboriginal communities
January 15, 2019 (Mississauga, ON) – Express Scripts Canada (ESC) is announcing its new Indigenous Internship Program, launched today as part of the organization’s larger commitment to supporting Aboriginal communities. The initial internship will be in Human Resources; the position will be for one year and will support outreach and recruitment efforts in the Mississauga office.
“We’re incredibly proud to launch this new Indigenous Internship Program today,” said Michele Baptiste, Manager, Aboriginal Relations. “This program has been designed to provide valuable work experience for the intern, and a hand up in their career development.”
ESC has a long history of serving Aboriginal communities, and are in the process of certification in the Progressive Aboriginal Relations (PAR) program, which sets standards of excellence in aboriginal relations and assesses organizations’ adherence to those standards. The internship is part of their Indigenous recruitment and retention strategy.
In developing the internship program, ESC is working closely with Indigenous consulting firm Acosys Consulting, with the goal of ensuring that the program delivers highly relevant real-life work experience that will qualify participants for full-time employment at the end of the internship. This means a well-structured engagement that integrates the intern into the day-to-day business of the organization. Put another way, interns won’t be fetching coffee.
