Invoking the name of the man who stopped the Meech Lake Accord, a First Nations leader from B.C. says he is prepared to fight for DRIPA when he and other leaders meet with Premier David Eby Thursday.
“I do believe it is almost the time to do [an]Elijah Harper moment like with Meech Lake. Where they have to stand up with the feather and say, ‘we will not take this prejudice and racism. We will not take this denialism. We will not even take amendments to the United Nations Declaration of Rights of Indigenous People,’” says Robert Phillips with the First Nations Summit, a political organization that supports nations involved in treaty negotiations in B.C.
