‘Several weeks’ longer than Jan. 10 deadline should be granted, government rep argues
With the Jan. 10 deadline to submit written reports for the final draft of a new Nunavut land-use plan looming, the Government of Nunavut is one of several entities asking for an extension.
“Development in the North can be particularly challenging, and we owe it to all Nunavummiut to collect all the necessary information and input before making land-access decisions,” said Henry Coman, director of forfeiture with the Government of Nunavut.
He said the GN is seeking a deadline extension of “several weeks.”
Others who have pushed for extending the deadline include Ben Kovic, of the Amaruq Hunters and Trappers Association, and the delegation from the Government of Canada.
