Press Release
March 11, 2019 Montréal, Quebec Employment and Social Development Canada
Canada’s prosperity depends on young Canadians launching meaningful careers. By helping them gain the skills and experience they need for a fair chance at success, we are investing in our greatest asset—our people.
Today, the Honorable Patty Hajdu, Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Labour, spoke about Canada’s Youth Employment Strategy and highlighted its success in Montréal.
Since 2015, the Government of Canada has provided over $63.5 million to organizations throughout Montréal for programming that supports skills training and meaningful work opportunities for young Canadians. This hard work and collaboration has resulted in about 14,500 young people receiving training and employment under the three streams of the Youth Employment Strategy: Skills Link, Career Focus and Canada Summer Jobs.
Minister Hajdu spoke at an event with Accès-Travail de Montréal, whose project has been funded for over $1.25 million under Skills Link. The Accès-Travail project supports young Canadians with barriers to employment gain employment skills and paid work experience with local businesses.
Quotes
“We know that our communities are healthier and stronger when everyone can fully participate. Supporting youth as they transition into the workforce and giving them the training they need to succeed is a key way in which we can grow our economy and strengthen the middle class. That is what we’ve accomplished through the Youth Employment Strategy and hope to continue for many years to come.”
