EDMONTON – Hundreds of aboriginal Albertans will have access to a new training program so they can work in the province’s busy construction industry, building hospitals, schools and other infrastructure, Alberta Premier Jim Prentice said Tuesday.
In partnership with NorQuest College in Edmonton and Bow Valley College in Calgary, Alberta Innovation and Advanced Education will contribute $1 million to launch a two-year pilot program that will train more than 600 aboriginal students for careers in construction.
Each college is kicking in $525,000 to fund the Alberta Aboriginal Construction Career Centre. Another $750,000 will come from industry and aboriginal groups.
