All First Nations, Métis or Inuit invited to meet and greet on June 22
An Indigenous Friendship Centre is coming to life in Huntsville.
It is an extension of the Muskoka Friendship Community in Gravenhurst and is for now, known as “The Huntsville Hub.” A local need exists, and has for some time, for urban First Nations, Métis and Inuit to gather, to find connection, a safe place to share, socialize, meet others of like-mind, and to heal.
The Gravenhurst Indigenous Friendship Community opened in 2018. Gravenhurst resident, Theresa Buker is Métis and founder of the centre. “Everyone is on a different healing path and each community has its own needs. Each community can identify gaps in services, establish community connections and listen to the needs of the Indigenous people,” she said.
