Incumbent received 51 per cent of votes in Universal Election
Incumbent Jobie Tukkiapik was re-elected president of the Makivik Corporation, the organization that represents Inuit in Northern Quebec.
Tukkiapik won yesterday’s election with 51 per cent of votes cast.
The morning after the election, Tukkiapik said he was “a little bit tired. We had a lot of visitors, a lot of phone calls of congratulations last night.
“It’s been quite the process since I got in the first time,” he said. ”The three years went by pretty quickly.”
It’s the second time Tukkiapik has been elected president of Makivik. In the last election in 2012, he defeated 14-year incumbent Pita Aatami by just 23 votes.
